V. Discipleship (2020-2025) 门徒操练期 From 2020 to 2025, Newton Life Church entered its fifth spiritual milestone: the Discipleship Period. Under the mentorship of Rev Joshua Ting—who became our pastoral mentor during this time—we were led to clarify our church’s core values: Faith, Life, and Mission. In 2020, our theme was “Listen to the God of Love, Listen to Others with Love”(Mark 12:29–31), which guided us through the onset of the global Covid-19 pandemic. Despite severe disruptions, God realigned our journey, leading us to adapt and thrive. Online platforms became vital as Sunday......

III. Purpose Driven Life (2005-2010) 生命塑造期 From 2005 to 2010, Newton Life Church entered its “Purpose Driven Life” phase. Amid pastoral transition, Rev Dr Abraham Lee was appointed senior pastor in 2006. Under his leadership, the church embraced Rick Warren’s Purpose Driven model, launching the 40 Days of Purpose and introducing the 5M structure—Membership, Magnification, Maturity, Ministry, and Mission. A leadership team attended training in the US, and church-wide discipleship courses (101–401) were established. The 2005 Golden Jubilee marked the journey’s climax, with 50 baptisms and 700 attendees. In 2007, the “Reach......

Read Psalm 4 – 6; Acts 17:16-34 Focus Psalm 4 Observation This psalm is a prayer that expresses quiet trust in the midst of troubles. The Psalmist experienced relief when he was in distress and he recognised relief was God-given. (v.1) The Psalmist asked how long he will suffer before the wicked? But he is comforted because he knows God hears his prayers. (v. 2-3) v. 4 gives the best advice when we are angry. Don’t sin when you are angry (Interpret for yourself what it means?) Ponder in your hearts. Be......

Read Psalm 1-3, Acts 17:1-15 Focus Acts 17:1-15 Observation I observed no matter where Paul went, there were opponents who would stir up the crowds to go against Paul. 17:5 – The Jews were jealous and formed a mob. They set the city (Thessalonica) in an uproar. 17:13 – His opponents (The Jews again!) from Thessalonica traveled 81km to Berea just to stir up the crowds against Paul again. And both incidents caused Paul to depart from the city and progress to other cities. Although they faced opposition in preaching Christ, good......

Read Job 41-42; Acts 16:22-40 Focus on Job 42:7-17 Observation After all the dialogues between the LORD, Job and his friends, at the conclusion we see the LORD’s doing. 1. The LORD rebuke Job’s friends for giving wrong information concerning God to Job (v. 7) 2. The LORD instructed the three friends to offer burnt offering. (v. 8a) 3. The LORD wanted Job to pray for the three friends. (v. 8b) 4. The LORD restored the fortunes of Job. And it was twice as much as he had before. (v. 10) 5.......

Read Acts 14:11-15 11 When the crowd saw what Paul had done, they shouted in the Lycaonian language, “The gods have come down to us in human form!” 12 Barnabas they called Zeus, and Paul they called Hermes because he was the chief speaker.13 The priest of Zeus, whose temple was just outside the city, brought bulls and wreaths to the city gates because he and the crowd wanted to offer sacrifices to them. 14 But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard of this, they tore their clothes and rushed out into the crowd, shouting: 15 “Friends, why......

Read 1 Corinthians 3:7-17 7 So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. 8 He who plants and he who waters are one, and each will receive his wages according to his labor. 9 For we are God’s fellow workers. You are God’s field, God’s building. 10 According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it. 11 For no one can lay a foundation......
