We are not limited to the four wall
Deuteronomy 6:6-7
6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.
This passage (D667) reminded me that God desires us to teach His word diligently to our children. It applies to all disciple-makers in the family of God too – We are all called to teach God’s word to fellow disciples whom God has entrusted to us.
In the midst of this pandemic, as all church physical meetings have been suspended and most of us are staying at home, how can we continue to teach God’s word or learn from a disciple-maker? Can we still obey the command of God in D667 despite not being able to meet in person?
Yes! We can and we ought to carry on teaching God’s word.
For teaching and obeying God’s command are not limited to the four walls of a church building. I would like to encourage us to follow the principles in D667 no matter what.
As a parent, I would like to share with you what my wife and I are still learning to practise daily:
• When we sit down with our children at the dining table, we give thanks for God’s providence.
• When we send them to school, we catch teaching moments and relate those moments to biblical truths.
• When we prepare for bedtime, we play worship songs (https://bit.ly/2EGx6CV), sing along and read bible stories with them.
• When we rise in the morning, we bless them with a prayer of God’s guidance and protection.
As a fellow disciple in the family of God, I would like to encourage us to live out D667. Let me suggest to you:
• Go for a meal with a disciple, give thanks to God’s providence together.
• Go for a walk with a disciple in the park, catch teaching moments and relate those moments to God’s word.
• Before bedtime, remember a few disciples of Christ in prayer.
• When you rise in the morning, send “Good morning! May the Lord bless you.” to a disciple, bless him or her with God’s words.
Remember! Teaching and obeying God’s command are not limited to the four walls of a church building. For Jesus had said, “GO and MAKE disciples of all nations…”
In Christ,
Rev Vincent
