8 VISITORS AND 2 HOUSEHOLDS

My dearest brothers and sisters, my family and I would like to wish all of you a PROSPEROUS BLESSED LUNAR NEW YEAR!

May God bless all of you a wonderful and enjoyable reunion dinner tomorrow!

This year’s CNY is certainly a different one for most of us.

This is because safe management measures has been tightened.
For instance, some of the measures include:
1. There will be a cap of 8 unique visitors per household per day.
2. When dining out, avoid raising voices at all times. Lohei should be done without saying the usual auspicious phrases.
3. Limit your visits to family and to not more than 2 households per day

Personally I thought the restriction for Lohei is quite interesting.
I wonder what is Lohei without declaring those auspicious phrases like? Would my children be able to control themselves and keep their mouth closed when they toss the colourful ingredients?

A cap of 8 unique visitors led me to ask questions like, “Who should I allow to visit us at home?”, “Will I offend some of my relatives and friends if I told them our quota is filled for the day, please do not come?”

And if I were to limit our visits to not more than 2 households per day, who should I visit? Which household is so called more important than the other?

I believe you have similar questions in mind. And we recognise it is not easy to make a decision that will please everybody.

I imagine what would Jesus do during this year’s CNY?

Who would be his 8 visitors? Who would be the 2 households he visit? What do you think?

I believe Jesus will give his priority to the non-believers.
For Jesus said, “I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.” (Luke 5:32)

During the CNY period, who would be your 8 visitors per day? Who would be the 2 households you visit per day?

May we be like Christ, go and enter the homes of the non-believers and welcome them to our home sweet home! CNY is certainly a good opportunity to connect with our non-believing friends and relatives. Grab the chance to connect with them! Don’t miss this golden opportunity that only happens once a year!

Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 5:16)

In the love of Christ,
Rev Vincent Lim
